In the history of Pebble Beach (72 years), no restoration shop or individual has entered and brought 2 restored type 57s Bugatti's to this reserved car show, until this year.
On August 21st, Sargent Metalworks of Bradford, Vermont, brought 2 Type 57s Bugatti cars to the show. Both cars placed in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd awards and secured both First in Class and also Second and took the 2 top prizes in the Bugatti Class.
Both of these cars underwent comprehensive restorations, finished just before the show. Both Bugatti's finished the rally without a problem.
The blue coupe won the top slot and the van Vooren convertible placed second. Either car could have won first as they were both restored correctly and in their delivered colors and interior schemes.
The first place car was the Bugatti 57573sc, an Atalante Coupe (number 16 of 17 ever made by Bugatti)Also know as the London stand show car for Bugatti in 1937, "The Blue Coupe".
The second place car was the black 1937 Van Vooren Cabriolet convertible #57513s. This is one of three Van Vooren bodied convertibles bodies built on a t57s chassis. Unique and with a 3 position top with landow irons and special front bumpers, only seen on 2 of these cars.
Both amazing cars and both great owners who will drive them as intended.
